The Swedish King Gustave V (1858-1950) acceded to the throne in 1907, succeeding his father Oscar II. Starting from 1862, he visited the French Riviera with his father and from 1904 he returned there every year except during the two wars. He stayed at the Hotel d'Angleterre at quai Masséna (today called Avenue de Verdun). A bust of the king is placed just in front of the hotel.
