This monument commemorates the centenary of the first annexation of the County of Nice to France during the revolutionary period. It is the work by two prominent artists: the Nice architect Jules Febvre (1859-1934) and the sculptor André Allar (1845-1926). The monument was inaugurated on 4 March 1896 in the presence of the President of the Republic Félix Faure.
